The Hanafi Madzhab is called Hanafi, because its founder was Imam Abu Hanifah An-Nu'man bin Thabit. He was born in 80 AH in Kufa and died in 150 AH. This school is known as the Ahli Qiyas (reason) school because few hadiths reached Iraq, so he used a lot of Qiyas. He is an intelligent, compassionate scholar and expert in tahajjud and is fluent in reading the Koran. He was offered to become a judge during the last Umayyad era, but he refused. This madzhab developed because it became a government madzhab during the time of Caliph Harun Al-Rasyid. Then during the reign of Abu Ja'far Al-Mansur he was asked to return to become a judge but he refused, and chose to live in business. This school of thought was born in Kufah
